Biodiversity Action Plans (or BAPs), are plans to protect and enhance species and natural habitats. They aim to provide a clear focus, prioritise actions, and set targets against which progress can be measured.
In the UK over 100 BAPs have now been produced on a wide range of geographical scales, which reflects the fact that wildlife priorities will differ significantly from one area to another. A BAP for the South West region was developed in 1997, which included regional habitat and species action plans, and other plans have been developed on a local scale since then, including the Swindon BAP, the Wiltshire BAP and the Cotswold Water Park BAP.
